Winning run ended in Dresden
Hertha BSC lost 0-1 away to Dynamo Dresden on Bundesliga 2 matchday 24.
Berlin - Hertha's record breaking winning run of 21 matches ended on Saturday afternoon. Jos Luhukay's men lost 0-1 to Dynamo Dresden in front of 29,174 at the glücks-gas stadion on Bundesliga 2 matchday 24 on Saturday afternoon (02.03.13).
Hertha boss Luhukay was forced to change his planned starting line-up. Marcel Ndjeng (possible torn hamstring) and top scorer Ronny (muscular problem) were replaced by young strikers Pierre-Michel Lasogga and Sandro Wagner. Levan Kobiashvili got the nod over Fabian Holland at left back. Änis Ben-Hatira returned to the squad after recovering from a bout of flu, but was on the bench at first. Dresden coach Peter Pacult kept faith in the team which drew 1-1 at Ingolstadt last time out.
Lively begin
The game got off to a lively start. On six minutes Lasogga found Adrian Ramos inside the Dynamo box. The Columbian’s effort was well saved by home keeper Benjamin Kirsten, who turned the ball away for a corner. That corner fell to Kobiashvili who blasted the ball well wide of the left hand upright. The home side then began to get forward themselves. As a long ball was about to reach Cristian Fiel, (who had already replaced injured team mate Savic), Hertha keeper Thomas Kraft raced off his line with a timely interception (12.). Then Berlin captain Peter Niemeyer shot from 20 metres out, but his effort also failed to hit the target (16.). The same thing happened at the other end, after Lynel Kitambala had won a race for the ball with Hertha's Brooks (22.).
Dresden had settled in well midway through the opening half, and Hertha were lucky as a cross-cum shot from Sebastian Schuppen flew past everyone and narrowly missed going in at the far post (27.). The spotlight then fell on Dynamo forward Michael Poté. Firstly he made a goal line clearance to prevent the visitors from taking the lead as Brooks threatened with a header from a free kick (35.). Three minutes later at the other end he headed his side ahead from a free kick. Some thought it was an own goal by Lasogga who was challenging him. Dresden led 1-0 at halftime.
Herthaner move forward but lack menace
Hertha emerged unchanged for the second half. The first chance fell to the home side as Kraft again did well to deny Kitambala (47.). The game was mainly played out in midfield and involved plenty of tough tackling. The Berliners seemed lost without Ronny to pull the strings in midfield. On the hour mark Dresden's Tobias Kempe fired a shot well wide of goal. Things were much closer though as Kitambala nodded the ball agonisingly wide of the top left hand corner. Luhukay had seen enough and brought on Änis Ben-Hatira and Ronny for Schulz and Wagner.
And the new pair could have equalised after combining right away. Ronny floated a ball to the feet of fellow sub Ben-Hatira. But the Tunisian's volley just missed the near post and a good chance was missed (71.). With Hertha throwing everything forward searching for an equaliser, Dresden had room to hit them on the break. Kraft took no chances using both fists to punch away a crisp effort from Poté (77.) .The Berlin stopper was again perfectly placed to keep out a header from the same player only moments later. Luhukay replaced his booked skipper Niemeyer with Alfredo Morales in a final throw of the dice. But it just wasn't to be.
Begin new winning run at home to Duisburg?
Lasogga "scored" on 86 minutes but match referee Weiner had spotted a foul beforehand. Hertha's superb run of 21 matches ended moments later with Weiner's final whistle. The capital city side now hope to start a new winning run a week on Sunday, as they host MSV Duisburg at the Olympic stadium on matchday 25.
