No goals against 1860 München

Hertha drew 0-0 at 1860 Munich on Bundesliga 2 matchday 26.
Munich - Hertha drew 0-0 with 1860 Munich in front of 25,400 at the Allianz-Arena in the Bavarian capital on Saturday afternoon (16.03.13). The game was a dull affair almost void of clear cut chances.

Hertha coach Jos Luhukay was forced into changes yet again. Captain Peter Niemeyer and young defender John Anthony Brooks (flu), Peer Kluge (bruised calf) all remained in Berlin for treatment. That meant a rare start for Maik Franz and Christoph Janker in central defence. Fabian Lustenberger and Alfredo Morales lined up in front of the back four. Three former Hertha players were in 1860's starting line up: Gabor Kiraly, Rob Friend and Malik Fathi faced their former club. Another former Hertha man - Max Nicu missed the game through injury.

Hertha with the better first half chances

The game was intensive early on, with tough tackling but sadly hardly any goalmouth action to cheer the paltry crowd at the freezing cold Allianz-Arena. After around a quarter of an hour Nico Schulz won the ball down the left before passing inside to Allagui, who narrowly missed connecting with the ball. Alfredo Morales was found on the left edge of the Munich box, but his shot flew well over Kiraly's goal (25.).

The first half chance of the home side fell to former Hertha man Friend, who fired well over the bar from inside the Berlin box (29.). Six minutes later Allagui connected to a though ball, but Kiraly was on hand to save his volley (35.). Allagui played a clever ball over the home defensive line, but one man got back to thwart Morales in the nick of time. On 38 minutes Peter Pekarik let fly from the edge of the Munich box and Adrian Ramos tried to deflect the ball towards goal but narrowly failed to connect. Ronny had a shot saved by Kiraly five minutes before the referee blew time on a goalless opening half.

Little penetration after the break

Hertha came out for the second half unchanged, and the home side had the first chance as Benjamin Lauth blasted the ball well wide from a tight angle (56.). Moments later things became more dangerous for the visitors as Marin Tomasov advanced towards Hertha keeper Thomas Kraft alone. Luckily for the Berliners he put his shot onto the roof of the net. Apart from that Hertha kept things tight at the back. Luhukay tried to liven things up by bringing on Änis Ben-Hatira and Ben Sahar for Schulz and Allagui.

Ronny then went on one of his trademark solo runs only to be blocked in the nick of time by a Munich defender. Not long afterwards Ben-Hatira crossed from the left, but Sahar headed over while handily placed at the far post (76.). Sandro Wagner came on for Ramos to face his former team, but neither side could find a decisive final pass to their front men. The game ended in a 0-0 draw, and Hertha remain top of the table, but only by a single point, because second placed Eintracht Braunschweig won 1-0 away at VfL Bochum, who are the visitors to the Olympic stadium in Berlin on March 30th after the break for international games.
