No points in final away game

Hertha BSC lost 0-2 in Bremen through two goals by Werder danger man Aaron Hunt.
Bremen - Hertha lost their final away game of the 2013/14 season on Saturday afternoon. The team under coach Jos Luhukay lost 0-2 to Werder Bremen in front of a sell out crowd (42,000) at the Wweserstadion. Aaron Hunt scored both of Werder's goals. Luhukay made three changes to his team from the previous week:  Adrian Ramos replaced Wagner up front, while Marcel Ndjeng and Ronny took the places of Baumjohann (flu) and Cigerci (bruised foot). Home coach Robin Dutt made just one change to his team, with Dutch winger Eljero Elia replacing Makiadi.

Hertha's Ronny got in the first shot of the game on 37 seconds, but the Brazilian's effort was deflected and lost power. Bremen got stuck into tackles from the opening whistle, with some challenges bordering on illegal. Hertha's defence looked solid enough early on. On 9 minutes Ramos found Skjelbred down the left. He forced a first save from Bremen keeper Raphael Wolf.  Ndjeng blasted the rebound wide of the left hand post.

Hosts with better start after the break

The game remained entertaining, with both sides looking for the quickest route to the opposing goal. A quickly taken throw in found Hunt  - playing his final home game for Werder. He cut the ball back from the by line to Theodor Gebre Selassie,  but his shot missed to the right of goal (21.). Berlin central defender Sebastian Langkamp joined the attack at a corner, but he could only nod the ball onto the roof of the Bremen goal (26.). Hertha tried hard but goalmouth action on their part was a rare occurrence. Their defence held it together at the back so the opening half ended 0-0.

Both teams were unchanged for the start of the second half, but this time the home side had the opening chance of the half. Following a one two Franco di Santo Hunt beat Berlin keeper Kraft with a shot to fire the home side in front (48.). Di Santo fired a shot from distance, which fizzed just wide of target (53.). Hunt threatened again but after dubiously getting the better of van den Bergh fired over the crossbar from a tight angle (59.). Moments later a Berlin attack saw a shot from Ronny only partially parried by Wolf. Sadly for Hertha's travelling faithful Allagui was ruled offside and the move came to nothing (59.).

Offensive changes fail to strike

Luhukay brought on Hany Mukhtar and Sandro Wagner to replace ersetzten Ronny and Ramos, as Hertha tried to grasp the initiative again. On 61 minutes Allagui pulled a shot wide from the edge of the box (61.), before Wolf somehow got to a ball from a Ndjeng corner which was heading into the top right hand corner of the Bremen net (63.). For some reason Skjelbred played the ball square while only five metres out in space and found no takers (68.). Then Änis Ben-Hatira was brought on to replace luckless Allagui. Bremen's Prödl went close, nodding a corner over from point blank range (76.). Hertha continued to get forward but the home defence was watertight.

Hunt finally put the game to bed deep into injury time at the end of the second half, as he cut in from the left before rounding Hosogai and sliding the ball home to double Werder's lead. So Hertha returned to the capital city after defeat in their final away game of the season. Next Saturday Luhukay and Co. entertain Borussia Dortmund at the Olympic stadium on Bundesliga matchday 34. The final game of the season kicks off at 3.30 pm.
