Hertha legend 'Zecke' tells us how he thinks the lads will do! This time: Mighty Bayern Munich at home!
Berlin - 'Zecke', a Hertha player for 15 years gives us his view on opponents ahead of each Bundesliga matchday.
"People, who are coming to town? The “serial” champions, the so-called unbeatables are visiting our stadium – the sold out Olympic stadium! Bayern are coming and it will be a real highlight of the season!
Our lads could approach the game that way – as a bonus game, a special day and a reward for us. You play Bundesliga football for such games. It goes without saying that Bayern are one of the best teams worldwide. In days gone by we were able to occasionally annoy them, especially when we played them at home. But the Bayern of today is a different kettle of fish. Despite having several players sidelined through injury, their bench is full of stars that would be automatic picks in any Bundesliga team. In order to “trip Bayern up” two things are required:
First and foremost Bayern have to have an off day.
Secondly we have to have a great day.
Let us not beat about the bush. This time the opponent decides how the game will go. But we could use that to our advantage. If we don’t produce passion, fight and a strong will we will be .like lambs to the slaughter. So: Keep it tight, defend in a focused manner and throw everything we have at them. The longer we keep a clean sheet, the greater the chance of causing an upset.
I am really looking forward to the game, we can all look forward to it. Heroes are not born every weekend, but they have an easier time of it in such games. I of course would love to see only heroes in blue and white on Saturday. With eleven heroes you have a chance against Bayern. Hahohe!"
