Deserved point

Hertha came from behind to take a deserved point in a 1-1 draw at Eintracht Frankurt on Sunday. Vladimir Darida scored for the visitors.
Frankfurt - Hertha BSC battled hard to take a deserved point on Sunday afternoon (27.09 15), drawing 1-1 against Eintracht Frankfurt, in front of 46,000 at the Commerzbank Arena on Bundesliga matchday 7. Last season’s Bundesliga top scorer Alex Meier gave the home side a first half lead, before Hertha replied after the break through Vladimir Darida.

Berlin boss Pál Dárdai made a single change to the team which beat Cologne last time out, with Tolga Cigerci getting the nod over Valentin Stocker who reverted to the bench. Reserve right back Yanni Regäsel made the squad for the first time. Once again first choice keeper Thomas Kraft failed to become fully fit in time. Rune Almenning Jarstein took his place between the Berlin posts.

Eintracht coach Armin Veh rang the changes after his sidelost 0-2 to Schalke on matchday 6.  Castaignos and Zambrano were replaced by Abraham and Kadlec, while Aigner took the place on injured striker Seferovic.
The large crowd in Frankfurt saw the home side get on top early on. After five minutes a free kick taken by Aigner fizzed narrowly wide of Jarstein’s goal. The visitors became slightly more active after around ten minutes as Darida tested home stopper Hradecky with a header (13.). Moments later the Frankfurt keeper was in action once again, this time to black an effort by Ibisevic from almost point blank range (14.). The resulting corner was headed onto the crossbar by Ibisevic with Hradecky beaten (15.). Pál Dárdai’s side fought hard but eventually went a goal down from a set piece, as Russ back headed a corner from the right and Meier was perfectly placed to open the scoring with a low shot into the bottom right hand corner (22.). Hertha broke and good approach work involving Marvin Plattenhardt ended in Ibesevic firing just over the Frankfurt goal (33.). Hertha were lucky as half time approached when Frankfurt’s Stendera nailed a fierce shot from 25 metres out onto the crossbar with Jarstein groping at air 42.). Frankfurt led 1-0 at the break.

The second half began in a much quieter way with the home side seemingly content to sit back and protect their slender lead. Ibisevic netted after an hour but match referee Benjamin Brand ruled the Hertha midfielder to be just offside. Goalmouth action became a rarity. On 67 minutes Niklas Stark tried his luck with a shot from distance, but Hradecky easily dealt with his effort. Twenty minutes from the end Dárdai brought on Valentin Stocker for Tolga Cigerci and reverted to a 4-4-2-system with Kalou and Ibisevic up top. The ploy paid off in the end Alexander Baumjohann landed at the feet of Vladimir Darida, who kept his cool in front of  Hradecky before finishing well into the bottom right hand corner of the net (82.). The equaliser boosted the visitors who went all out in search of a winning goal but to no avail. The game ended in a 1-1 draw.

After an average first half, Hertha improved after the break and were well worth their late equaliser through Vladimir Darida. On the balance of play a draw was about the right result. Next Saturday (03.10.15, 3.30 PM). Hertha welcome HSV to the Olympic stadium in Berlin on Bundesliga matchday 8.
