3-0! Hertha beat HSV

Hertha BSC deservedly beat HSV 3-0, thanks to a Kalou opener followed by an Ibisevic brace.
Berlin - Hertha celebrated German unification day in style on Saturday afternoon (03.10.15), beating HSV 3-0 in front of 65,427 at the Olympic stadium in Berlin on Bundesliga matchday 8. Salomon Kaloubroke the deadlock on 17 minutes and two late strikes from Ibisevic put the game beyond disappointing visitors.
Home coach Pál Dárdai kept faith in his team which drew 1-1 away to Frankfurt last time out, with Almenning Jarstein keeping goal in the place of injured first choice stopper Thomas Kraft. Summer signing Mitchell Weiser made the starting line-up depite having a broken toe. Salomon Kalou and Vedad Ibisevic former the Berlin front line. Visiting coach Bruno Labbadia made a solitary change to his team which lost 0-1 at home to Schalke last time out. Nicolai Müller played on the right wing instead of Michael Gregoritsch.

There was not much goal mouth action to cheer during the first half but the home side took the lead on 17 minutes with their first real attack of the game. Weiser superbly set up Kalou on the edge of the Hamburg box. The Ivorian striker turned sharply and sent a fierce low shot past former Hertha keeper Drobny and into the bottom corner of the net. The visitors struggled to recover from the blow, although their summer signing from Wolfsburg Aaron Hunt forced a save from Jarstein on 28 minutes. That was really the only time the Rothosen posed any kind of a threat. Another former Berlin playing for HSV was Lasogga, who never saw the light of day against Berlin skipper Lustenberger. There was bitter news for Hertha fans just ahead of the half hour mark as central defender Niklas Stark was forced off with an adductor problem. His place went to Jens Hegeler. Nothing much happened before the break into which Hertha took a 1-0 lead with them.
The second half was more lively but the visitors couldn’t find a way through the well organised home defence. Hertha for their part were ever-dangerous on the break. The Berliners created a couple of chances on the break but failed to take any of them at first. Darida was set up by Kalou (52.), while Cigerci (68.) and Haraguchi (71.) also missed good scoring opportunities. That all changed as Ibisevic struck twice in as many minutes (76 + 78). Fine approach work from Cigerci, Kalou and substitute Alexander Baumjohann resulted in Hertha’s summer signing to double his tally for the season. Darida missed a decent chance on 83 minutes and his skipper Lustenberger struck the crossbar with a thunderbolt three minutes later. Hertha deservedly won 3-0. After the break for international games Hertha take on Schalke at the Veltins Arena in Gelsenkirchen on Saturday (17.10.15, 3.30 PM) on Bundesliga matchday 9.
