Three points in the snow!

Three points in the snow!

Hertha BSC beat TSG Hoffenheim 1-0 on Sunday afternoon.
Berlin - An own goal by Eugen Polanski saw Hertha beat TSG Hoffenheim  on Sunday afternoon (22.11.15) in a Bundesliga matchday 13 clash.

Home coach Pal Dardai made just one change to the side which won 3-1 at Hannover last time. Mitchell Weiser failed to become fit in time and was replaced by  Tolga Cigerci in left midfield opposite right midfield man Haraguchi. TSG boss and former Hertha coach Huub Stevens rang the changes to his side, following the 0-0 draw with Eintracht Frankfurt on matchday 12. Schwegler missed out through suspension. His place went to Polanski. Amiri and Uth got the nod over Vargas and Kuranyi.
After the stadium remained silent for a munute in honour of the events in Paris a week last Friday, the game got underway in a snow storm. The early artion was confined to midfield. The home side appeared visibly on top early on while the visitors sat back waiting to hit them on the break. On 71 minutes Haraguchi found Salomon Kalou with a neat pass, but the Ivorian slipped and fired wide. Haraguchi then tired his won luck but TSG keeper Baumann easily dealt with the effort. On 30 minutes  Marvin Plattenhardt floated a free kick into the Hoffenheim box, where Polanski back headed the ball into his own net to give Hertha the lead. The home side pressed forward and shortly afterwards Kalou narrowwly failed to reach a cross by Haraguchi from the right  Flanke (34.). Cigerci also missed the target (42.). Hoffenheim tried to get forward but found no way through the well organised Berlin defence. Hertha led 1-0 at the break.

Hertha made a cautious approach to the second half, pr3eferring to sit back and see what the visitors had to offer. Whenever TSG ventured forward Hertha stopper Jarstein and the defence in front of him nipped any real danger in the but. On 53 minutes Rudy played a low ball to Uth lurking inside the Berlin box. Luckily Jarstein raced off his line to reach the ball ahead of the Hoffenheim man. Volland missed Hoffenheim’s best chance on 76 minutes as he blazed the ball over the bar from only 8 metres out. Bicakcic also fired wide of target (81.), and Hertha easily played out the remaining minutes to record a crucial win.

Maybe the win was all the more important because points will be hard to come by next Saturday (28.22.15), as Dardai and Co. travel south to the sold out Allianz-Arena in Munich, where star-studded Bayern Munich welcome the capital city side on matchday 14.
