Hertha BSC lost 1-2 at home to Darmstadt 98 on matchday 33.
Berlin - Hertha BSC lost 1-2 at home to Darmstadt 98 on Bundesliga matchday 33. Hertha’s goal was scored by Vladimir Darida. The capital city club are in sixth place, level on points a place below them ahead of the final game of the season.

Pál Dárdai made four changes to the side which faced Bayer 04 Leverkusen away from home last time out Hertha lost 1-2 at the sold out BayArena. Plattenhardt was suspended so Maximilian Mittelstädt took over at left back, while Mitchell Weiser replaced Pekarik at right back. Fit again Vladimir Darida replaced Weiser in midfield. Man-mountain USA defender John Anthony Brooks took the place of Sebastian Langkamp in central defence. The fourth man in the new-look line-up was Genki Haraguchi, who got the nod over Tolga Cigerci. Visiting coach Dirk Schuster made two changes to his starting line-up following the 1-2 home defeat to lowly Eintracht Frankfurt. Jungwirth and Rajkovic were replaced by Garics and Holland in defence.
Hertha combined well during the early stages in front of another massive crowd inside the tradition-steeped Olympic stadium, and had the opening chance as Vladimir Darida was denied by Darmstadt stopper Mathenia. The home side maintained the pressure and were rewarded with the opening goal on 14 minutes, as a pinpoint ball into the area by Mittelstädt was struck home by Darida from close range. The visitors were not unduly bothered by that setback and struck back, as Gondorf turned in a crisp ball into the Hertha box by Heller, who had broken down the right wing (25.). Hertha went in search of a second goal but had to be wary of counter attacks from the visitors. Hertha upped the pressure towards the end of the opening half but the visitors defended well and the game was nicely poised at 1-1 as the half time whistle was blown.

After the break Hertha struggled to find a way through the well-organised Darmstadt defensive line even though they had the majority of possession. The roof was raised off the stadium on 62 minutes as Darida converted a blocked shot by Ibisevic! The referee however scandalously ruled the goal out. It will remain his secret why. Darmstadt then squandered two decent chances through former Hertha striker Sandro Wagner, who was denied by home keeper Rune Almenning Jarstein (65.). He got a head to the ball from a corner which he nodded narrowly over the bar while handily placed (66.). Four minutes later Ibisevic blazed the ball over the bar following impressive combination work. Darmstadt threatened again on 82 minutes as Platte sent a shot fizzing just over the bar. Moments later however the visitors went one better as Wagner bundled home a pass from Heller from point blank range (83.). Hertha battled on and Kalou was denied by a near post save by Darmstadt keeper Mathenia. Wagner was then sent off on 88 minutes but the home side failed to capitalise. Darmstadt ran out the deserved 2-1 winners.

Hertha lost a matchday 33 battle at home to Darmstadt. The final game of the season next Saturday (14.05.16) sees the capital city club on their travels away to FSV Mainz 05, in a game which kicks off at 3.30 PM. Hertha can qualify for Europe should they succeed there.
