Second game – second win

Second game – second win

Hertha BSC won 2-0 at FC Ingolstadt through goals by Ibisevic and Schieber.

Ingolstadt - Hertha BSC made history on Saturday afternoon (10.09). Their 2-0 win away to FC Ingolstadtst on Bundesliga matchday 2 was the first time in their 34 year top flight history that the capital city side had won their opening two matches of a new season! Captain Vedad Ibisevic and substitute Julian Schieber were on target to give Hertha a deserved win.

Pál Dárdai was forced to make one change to his team which began the new season with a home 2-1 home win over SC Freiburg. Per Skjelbred failed to become fit in time, so his place in the team went to Niklas Stark, who was suspended for the opening game because of a suspension that carried over from last season.  in die Anfangsformation. Herthas Nummer 5 hatte am 1. Spieltag noch gesperrt gefehlt. Ingolstadt coach Markus Kauczinski also made one change, with new signing Tisserand getting the nod over Bregerie.
Former Hertha man Alfredo Morales had the opening chance of the game after only 2 minutes, but it would be the visitors who would score first. Former Hertha skipper Fabian Lustenberger somehow managed to intercept a ball with his heel in the air behind him and steer it to Genki Haraguchi who in turn fed Vedad Ibisevic. The in-form Bosnian made no mistake firing Hertha ahead on 8 minutes. The game was as expected a real bruiser. It must be said though that the visitors were determined in the tackle and managed to win a lot of second ball. Because most of the action took part between both penalty areas so goal mouth action was a rarity. Mitchell Weiser burst into the home box and fell midway through the first half. Match referee Dr. Jochen Drees was unmoved. A lightning quick counter attack ended Vladimir Darida came within a whisker of finding Weiser who was more than handily placed to score (34.). Seconds later danger threatened at the other end, but Berlin stopper Rune Almenning Jarstein’s head somehow kept an effort by Dario Lezcano out. Hertha deservedly led 1-0 at the break.

The first action of the second half came from sert pieces. Firstly Jarstein had no trouble in taking the ball off Matip (49.). At the other end, Jarstein’s counterpart Nyland had to be at full stretch to deny Ibicevic who looked certain to score with his head (53.). Ingolstadt substitute Hinterseer was nicely played in Leckie, but Jarstein was in miserly mood and kept his side in front (59.). Ingolstadt threw everything forward, winning several free kicks and corners, without it must be said being able to really threaten from them. Dardai then replaced Weiser with Alexander Esswein, who almost wrong footed the home keeper on 73 minutes. Hertha remained calm and showed great patience. On 86 minutes Haraguchi produced a wonderful cross from the left which was easily nodded home by Berlin substitute Julian Schieber to put the game to bed. Game over!

Hertha impressed in the tackle and produced a solid defensive performance, hardly ever allowing the home side to settle A period of late pressure from Ingolstadt never looked like producing a goal and was stopped in its tracks by the late goal by Schieber, who put the game t bed as he had done the previous week at home to Freiburg. Dardai and Co. ae in action again next Sunday (18.09.16, 5.30 PM) as Schalke visit the Olympic stadium in Berlin for what promises to be a superb game.
