0-3: No joy in Munich

0-3: No joy in Munich

Hertha BSC lost 0-3 against Bayern at the sold out Allianz-Arena in Munich on Wednesday evening (21.09.16).
Munich - Hertha BSC tasted defeat for the first time this season, as they lost 0-3 at massive title favourites Bayern Munich on matchday 4. Goals by Ribery, Thiago and Robben sealed a deserved win in front of 75,000.

Berlin boss Pál Dárdai made two changes to the team which had beaten Schalke 2-0 at home last weekend. New signing Allan Souza replaced Per Skjelbred and played alongside Fabian Lustenberger in front of the back line. Fellow new signing Alexander Esswein replaced the injured Darida. He lined up in attacking midfield with Genki Haraguchi and Mitchell Weiser. Bayern’s Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti fielded a strong side after comfortably beating Ingolstadt 2-0 last time out. In defence Lahm, Boateng and Alaba returned at the expense of Rafinha, Bernat and Kimmich, while in right midfield Thiago Santos and World Cup winner Thomas Müller got the nod over Renato Sanches and Coman.
The top two duel began as expected with Bayern applying early pressure. Berlin keeper Rune Almenning Jarstein was  first called into action after only two minutes, tipping a Lewandowski header over his crossbar. Moments later Müller shot narrowly wide (3.). On 11 minutes the visitors got near the Bayern box for the first time. A counter attack ended with Vedad Ibisevic agonisingly missing a ball from Haraguchi. Bayern continued to take the game to Hertha and on one occasion it took a timely challenge from Plattenhardt  to thwart Martinez (15.). Bayern took the lead only a minute later as Frenchman Ribery dribbled his way past all and sundry before sliding the ball past Jarstein and into the net (16.). The home side created plenty of chances, the best of which were missed by Ribery (27.) and Lewandowski (33.).  Hertha began to probe forward towards the end of the first half. Their first venture ended with Ibisevic being caught offside after being played in by Esswein (37.). Shortly before the half time break Weiser curled a free kick from the left just past the right hand post.

Bayern dominated at will in the second half. Dardai made a double change on the hour mark by bringing on Julian Schieber and Valentin Stocker for Ibisevic and Esswein. The latter forced a save from Manuel Neuer shortly after coming on (61.). It didn’t take long for the action to take place at the other end. Bayern hit the visitors with a double whammy inside four minutes. Thiago took the ball off Allan before making it 2-0 (68.). Four minutes later Munich substitute Robben scored the last goal of the game (72.). The home side controlled matters, not allowing Hertha any further chances. It was great to see Sami Allagui back on the pitch following his long injury lay off. The replaced Weiser with six minutes to go. Allagui tested Neuer with a late shot on the turn but Bayern still ran out the deserved 3-0 winners.

Hertha never really found a way into the game against a star-studded Bayern line-up. Bayern’s success was never in doubt and their win is well deserved. Hertha are in action again on Saturday afternoon (24.09.16, 3.30 PM), as they take on Eintracht Frankfurt away from home on Bundesliga matchday 5.
