New Daddy at the double!
New Daddy at the double!

Hertha beat HSV 2-0 on Saturday afternoon thanks to a brace of goals from new father Vedad Ibisevic.
Berlin - Hertha BSC beat HSV 2-0 in an exciting game full of chances, on Bundesliga matchday 6 in front of 45,000 inside the Olympic stadium in Berlin on Saturday afternoon (01.10). Hertha’s deserved third home win of the season came by way of a brace of goals by captain Vedad Ibisevic (29., 70.) who had become the father of a healthy daughter 24 hours beforehand.
Home coach Pál Dárdai made just the one change to the team which had drawn 3-3 in Frankfurt last time out. Peter Pekarik missed out through injury and was replaced by Mitchell Weiser at right back. Nes signing Alexander Esswein beagn the game. New HSV coach Gisdol made several changes for his first game in charge. Former Hertha striker Lasogga lined up alongside former Union Berlin forward Bobby Wood in a two-pronged attack. Kostic and Cleber started while captain Djourou (muscular injury), Jung and all missed out.

The game began at a furious pace with both sides creating chances. Hertha made the better start and Genki Haraguchi (2.) and Sebastian Langkamp (6.) tried their luck as did Müller (11.) and Kostic (12.) at the other end. Shortly afterwards Hertha had some bad luck as Mitchell Weiser (15.) and Haraguchi (16.) both struck the woodwork. A Valentin Stocker effort was easily dealt with by Hamburg stopper Adler. Ibisevic however went one better on 29 minutes as his shot was deflected past Adler by Lasogga (of all people). The visitors plugged away, looking useful down the wings but as has so often been the case in recent seasons were simply not clinical enough in front of goal. Hertha deservedly led 1-0 at the break.
Hamburg too the game to the home side at the start of the second half, which allowed Hertha more room to hit them on the break. Esswein and Stocker in particular worked hard down the left creating chances in the process a couple of which were missed by the Swiss international (57., 59.). Stocker broke through on 68 minutes and as he was felled inside the Hamburg box by Ekdal, referee Winkmann pointed to the spot. Up stepped Ibisevic to score his and Hertha’s second of the game to round off what has been an amazing 48 hours for the Hertha skipper. He could have had a hat trick on 74 minutes but narrowly failed to connect with the ball properly. A minutes later Müller was ruled offside as Lasogga “scored”. The visitors tried their luck from distance but to no avail, as Hertha’s well organised defence kept them at bay. Esswein was replaced late on by Sinan Kurt who made his debut for the capital city club.
The 2-0 victory sees Hertha move to second place in the Bundesliga table with 13 points – at least for 24 hours. HSV still await their first win of the season. After the break for international games, Hertha play again on Friday October14, when they travel to the magnificent Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund where Borussia Dortmund await them for a floodlit cracker on matchday 7. Players not on international duty will train as normal starting Tuesday (04.10.16, 3.30 PM).
