Hard-earned point!
Hard-earned point!

Hertha BSC left Dortmund with a point on Friday night (14.10.16) following a 1-1 draw.
Dortmund - The opening game of matchday 7 saw the capital city side grab a superb 1-1 draw away to Borussia Dortmund on Friday night, as the Bundesliga resumed after the international break. The visitors broke the deadlock in what was at times a heated game and keeper Jarstein managed to keep them ahead until the 80th minute. Valentin Stocker scored for the Berliners while Aubameyang replied for the home side. Dortmund’s Mor was sent off just before the end. Hertha’s Stocker received his marching orders too with almost the last kick of the game.
Berlin boss Pál Dárdai made just one change to his side which beat rock bottom HSV 2-0 on matchday 6 before the international break. Former skipper Fabian Lustenberger remained in Berlin for treatment ofn a hip injury. His place in the team went to Niklas Stark. John Anthony Brooks returned to central defence. Dardai’s Dortmund counterpart Thomas Tuchel made five changes after losing 0-2 to Leverkusen last time out: Piszczek, Sokratis, Castro and Guerreiro all missed out through injury and Dembelé was on the bench at first. Passlack, Merino, Schmelzer, Götze and Morall made the starting line-up.
As expected Borussia took the game to the visitors in front of 80,000 at the magnificent Signal-Iduna Park. Their early endeavours however were stopped in their tracks by a tactically astute Hertha defence who challenged before any danger could develop. The first good chances of the game fell to the home side as first Mor (7.) and then Pulisic (13.) threatened. Hertha waited for a chance to hit Borussia on the break and Esswein fired their first chance over the bar on 17 minutes. After 30 minutes Stocker failed to connect properly with a fine cross by Genki Haraguchi. The Japanese international then set up Esswein up again with a ball from the right but Hertha’s summer signing fired over once again (32). The game was goalless at the break.
Hertha broke the deadlock with their first chance of the second half, as Ibisevic superbly found Stocker inside the home box with a back heel. The latter drilled the ball part Burki and into the net, much to the delight of the huge contingent of travelling Hertha fans (51.). Dortmund went in search of an equaliser with wave after wave of attacks. Berlin stopper Jarstein showed his class by denying Schmelzer (61.) and then danger man Aubameyang who had the goal at his mercy (67.). A shot by Dortmund’s Kagawa struck his compatriot Haraguchi on the arm and match referee Ittrich pointed to the penalty spot. Jarstein shone again as he produced a stunning save to deny Aubameyang from the spot (77.). The prolific striker was not to be denied though and equalised for the home side only three minutes later. The game became more heated in the latter stages and Langkamp was knocked down by Mor during a scuffle. The Hertha defender was booked while Mor was sent off (84.). Hertha’s Stocker was also given his marching orders in the final minute for a nasty sliding challenge on Ginter. The game ended in a 1-1 draw, about the right result on the balance of play.
After taking a superb point home from Dortmund, Hertha moved into second place in the table (at least overnight) with 14 points – a point more than Dortmund. Matchday 8 sees the capital city side entertain 1. FC Köln on Saturday (22.10.16, 3.30 PM) at the Olympic stadium.
