Defeat in Hoffenheim
Defeat in Hoffenheim
Hertha BSC lost 0-1 at TSG Hoffenheim on Bundesliga matchday 9 on Sunday afternoon (30.10.16).
Berlin - Hertha BSC narrowly lost 0-1 away to TSG Hoffenheim on Sunday afternoon in front of just over 28,000 inside the Wirsol Rhein-Neckar-Arena in Sinsheim. The only goal of the game was scored in the first half by Niklas Süle and came from a set piece.
Pal Dardai made four changes to the team which played in the DFB Cup in midweek. Stocker was still suspended and was replaced by Allan Souza. Langkamp and Plattenhardt missed out through injury, while Ivorian forward Kalou only made the bench. Fabian Lustenberger, Alexander Esswein and Genki Haraguchi all made the starting line-up. After exiting the cup at the hands of Cologne in midweek, TSG boss Julian Nagelsmann made just a solitary chance to that side, giving the nod to Kaderabek ahead of Amiri.

It was a game of fourth (TSG) against third placed visitors and the game began at a promising pace with both sides brimming with confidence. The early threats came by way of a cross by Haraguchi (2.) and an effort from Süle following a corner (3.). The first really good chance fell to Souza, who met his match in home keeper Baumann (14.). The home side became more dangerous midway through the opening half. Berlin keeper Jarstein did well to come out on top in a one on one situation involving Hoffenheim’s Rupp (27.). Then Kaderabek struck the underside of the crossbar with a header (29.). Süle took the third chance offered to his team. The defender was on hand to powerfully head home a free kick (31.). Hertha did not look visibly shaken by the setback, although Jarstein again denied Sule in a one on one battle (33.). Stark let fly from distance on the stroke of half time. The home side led 1-0 at the break.
The visitors made a bright start to the new half and could have levelled had Ibisevic not fired his shot into the midriff of Baumann while perfectly placed (51.). The Bosnian went down indide the home box moments later but the referee ignored his pleas. Dardai then replaced Esswein with Schieber hoping to become more potent up front. At the other end Kramaric missed the target with a long distance effort (58.). Th3e game became bogged down between both boxes. With 20 minutes to go Jarstein consolidated his superb form this season by denying former Hertha man Sandro Wagner with an excellent stop (71.). Demirbay curled a free kick from a tight angle just over the bar (76.), two minutes later Jarstein was on guard again to thwart him. Kalou replaced Skjelbred and Sami Allagui Ibisevic for the remainder of the game. Schieber was ruled offside as he looked certain to score (82.). Kramaric should have put the game to bed at the death but Jarstein had other ideas, producing another stunning save. Hertha lost 0-1 in the end.
Hertha were the better team for the first 25 minutes or so but them allowed Hoffenheim back into the game. TSG created good chances and scored what turned out to be the only goal of the game through Niklas Süle. Hertha improved after the break and they had a few good chances to equalise. It must also be said that Hoffenheim could just as easily have scored a second goal. Rune Jarstein was the Hertha hero of the day. Dardai and Co, play again next Friday night (04.11.16, 8.30 PM) as mid-table Borussia Mönchengladbach visit the Olympic stadium in Berlin for a matchday 10 opener.
