Hertha BSC earn an important 2-0 win on Saturday evening at home to Eintracht Frankfurt.
Berlin – Hertha BSC picked up a deserved 2-0 win against Eintracht Frankfurt on Bundesliga Matchday 22. Captain Vedad Ibisevic and Vladimir Darida both scored in the second half to get all three points for Hertha.

Pál Dárdai elected to make no changes from the team that drew 1-1 against Bayern Munich last weekend at the Olympiastadion.

On the other side, Niko Kovac rang in the changes following Eintracht Frankfurt’s 0-2 loss to Ingolstadt last week, making five alterations. Guillermo Varela, Michael Hector, Max Besuschkow, Mitaj Gacinovic and Taleb Tawath came into the side, replacing David Abraham, Omar Mascarell, Jesus Vallejo, Aymen Barkok and Alex Meier.

Both teams started the game with high levels of energy and commitment. Hertha threatened going forward but found a tough barrier in the form of the Eintracht back line. Eintracht aimed to make their mark on the counter but were left similarly frustrated by Hertha’s defensive play. The only major chance of the first half came just short of the half hour mark when Haris Seferovic was sent through on goal, but fast reactions from Rune Jarstein meant the scores stayed level. BSC made a decent chance themselves before the end of the first half but Salomon Kalou’s header was saved by Lukas Hradecky.
Both teams looked to turn up the heat after the break, but it was Dardai’s men who found the way through. Niklas Stark played an excellent through ball to Kalou, who was tackled before he could get a shot away, but the loose ball fell perfectly into the path of Vedad Ibisevic, who slotted it home calmly at the near post 52 minutes in. Eintracht increased their pressure after going behind, but Hertha stood firm. The visitors were reduced to ten men in the 78th minute when Seferovic was given his marching orders for elbowing Niklas Stark. The game was sealed 5 minutes after, when substitute Maximilian Mittedstädt delivered a perfect cross towards the far post, perfectly in line for the disguised run of Vladimir Darida, who made no mistake with his close-range header to double Hertha’s lead. The final highlight came in the final moments of normal time, when Ondrej Duda came on to replace goalscorer Darida for his BSC debut.
