Berlin – You know a good fit when you find one. Hertha BSC can today confirm the contract extensions of assistant coach Rainer Widmayer and goalkeeper coach Zsolt Petry. "We are focusing on continuity and hence we are very happy at the news that Rainer and Zsolt will be staying here. Along with Pál and Admir there has been a great deal of positive development down the years," commented Michael Preetz, sporting director on Thursday afternoon.
A successful quartet
Dárdai has stated that he considers Widmayer "second chief," having worked with him since his own arrival in February 2015. Known for his tactical acumen and meticulous strategising, Widmayer had already worked as an assistant coach between summer 2010 and December 2011, and briefly served as interim head coach in that time. Petry worked alongside Dárdai with the Hungarian national team, has been at BSC since summer 2015. The Hungarian was a major part of convincing Rune Jarstein to remain at the club and developing him into one of the best goalkeepers in the Bundesliga.
