Home win against Dortmund

Hertha BSC defeated Borussia Dortmund 2-1 on Saturday afternoon.

Berlin- Salomon Kalou opened the scoring, before Pierre Emerick Aubameyang equalised after the break. Marvin Plattenhardt’s brilliant free kick gave Pal Dardai’s side the points.

Line up: Pal Dardai kept the same eleven for the fourth game in a row. Mitchell Weiser was back in the squad for the first time in four months and sat on the bench. Onredj Duda (muscle) and Alexander Esswein (Infection) missed out. Dortmund coach Thomas Tuchel made four changes from the Champions League game in the week, with Ginter, Guerreiro, Kagawa and Schürrle coming in for Dembelé, Piszczek, Pulisic and Sokratis.

Match summary

Both teams came out strong at the start of the game, and it was Hertha who started to create the best chances before being rewarded after eleven minutes. Salomon Kalou got the goal after terrific build up from Vedad Ibisevic. After that there were chances to extend the lead, but it was the visitors who ended the half stronger, and it was only a strong back line that prevented the teams going in level.

The second half followed the same pattern as the first, before Per Sjkelbred and Genki Haraguchi both wasted opportunities to extend the lead. Aubameyang did find the back of the net to equalise shortly after and at that point the away side were the stronger team. Thankfully for the home fans, the goal came at the other end, as Marvin Plattenhardt struck a perfect free kick into the top corner from 20 yards. The game remained tight and feisty to the finish, but the hosts remained resolute and stood strong to record another home victory.

Outlook

With the deserved victory, Hertha move to 40 points and remain fifth in the league. Next week sees them take on FC Köln away from home on Saturday.
