International update: Hertha players undefeated

International update: Hertha players undefeated

It's a case of three games, three wins for Hertha's internationals after the opening trio of matches.

After Vladimir Darida started things off on Wednesday night by playing 45 minutes for the Czech Republic in their win over Lithuania, Thursday night saw three Hertha players in action for their respective countries. Genki Haraguchi and Japan took a step towards qualification for the 2018 World Cup by beating the UAE 2-0. Haraguchi played the full 90 minutes and helped Japan to climb to second, level on points with group leaders Saudi Arabia.
Further success on Thursday night for Hertha players came in the shape of a win for the German under-20 national side, featuring Maximillian Mittelstädt. Teammate Jordan Torunarigha started on the bench but did not make an appearance in the 1-0 win over Switzerland. “The most important thing was the performance” said coach Guido Streichsbier. “We didn’t concede and we did a lot of other things right too.” Streichsbier is preparing his team for this summer’s World Cup in Korea and has until the end of March to select his 35-man squad.
Friday will see Niklas Stark and Mitchell Weiser in action for Germany under-21s in a friendly against England at 20.00 and John Brooks will line up in San Jose overnight as the United States take on Honduras in a World Cup qualifier. The States currently sixth with no points in group 1 of the North and Central American Qualification zone.
