There were several changes following last Friday’s defeat to Hoffenheim. Jordan Torunarigha made his first start at left back with Maximilian Mittelstädt suspended while Niklas Stark stood in for John Brooks at centre back- Valentin Stocker played the whole 90 minutes and Genki Haraguchi came in for Vedad Ibisevic up top.
Gladbach made three changes from the goalless draw at Frankfurt, with Bénes, Elvedi and Herrmann replacing Jantschke, Raffael and Strobl in the starting eleven.

Gladbach started strong and got a sight of goal straight away, though Jordan Torunarigha was alert enough to clear the danger. Hertha had just started to create chances and look dangerous when Gladbach snatched the lead when Bénes shot from distance found its way into the corner.
But Dardai’s men responded well, forcing pressure on the Gladbach goal, with Peter Pekarik and Alexander Esswein both missing good opportunities to equalise before Salomon Kalou struck the bar with a free kick on the stroke of half-time.
The Foals emerged from half-time stronger and dominated the early stages, hitting the post twice in quick succession through Ofmann, before Jarstein had to block an effort from Vestergaard.
Hertha could only offer very little, and Salomon Kalou’s weak header was the closest they came before the closing stages. Julias Kade was introduced for his Bundesliga debut and he nearly had a hand in helping Hertha snatch a point at the death. After winning the ball on the edge of the box, the ball found its way way to Stocker, who could only volley wide from close range, meaning another defeat on the road for Pal Dardai’s BSC.

Hertha stay on 40 points after 27 games, enough to put them sixth in the table. The next task for the Blue and Whites will be on Sunday, when they take on FC Augsburg in the Olympiastadion.
