Hertha were unable to stop their losing run away from home after being beaten 1-0 by Mainz 05 on Saturday afternoon.
Berlin- Hertha could not do anything against Mainz’s will to fight and aggression. A poor first half was followed by a better second 45 display, but Danny Latza’s deflected goal just before the break was enough to give the home side all three points.
Pal Dardai had to make three changes following last weekend’s home win over Augsburg. Allan Souza, Maxi Mittelstädt and Genki Haraguchi came in with Vladimir Darida suspended and Niklas Stark and Valentin Stocker suffering from slight knocks.
Martin Schmidt brought in Jairo, Quaison and Frei in place of De Blasis, Ramalho and Öztunali for the Zerofivers.

The relegation-threatened home side were up for the fight and applied pressure immediately. Mainz looked to moved quickly and created chances, only to see the Hertha back line stay calm and stable as a defensive unit at the back. The attacking game just wasn’t working for Pal Dardai’s side. The home side deservedly opened the scoring in first half stoppage time.
Hertha came out stronger after the break and looked even more threatening after the intorduction of Sami Allagui and Alexander Esswein. Salamon Kalou was had a half chance before the hour, but the ball was smothered by goalkeeper Huth. Alex Esswein saw his vicious shot from twenty yards turned away as Hertha cranked up the pressure in the final 15 minutes. Allagui almost set up Vedad Ibisevic late on but Mainz held on to claim all three points.
