Hertha leave Bremen empty handed

Bremen started the match much stronger and were aggressive and direct from the off. The first sight of goal gave them lead. A Hertha free kick was cleared before Max Kruse fed Fin Bartels to slot home one-on-one. A mistake from a clearance by Rune Jarstein allowed Bremen to double their lead shortly after, with Kruse on hand to tap home from close range following a cross. Hertha solidified at the back thereafter, but were unable to offer anything going forward.
The second half saw the Berliners come out stronger. As Werder were content to sit back Dardai’s men saw more of the ball and looked to create more in the final third. Both Salomon Kalou and Vladimir Darida had good opportunites to get on the scoresheet but could not convert. Late on, Vedad Ibisevic was very unlucky to not be awarded a penalty after being taken out by Lamine Sane in the penalty area. The increased pressure bought no goals, and the game finished 2-0 to the home side.
The Blue-Whites remain in fifth place after 31 games with 46 points - just one point ahead of the side who beat them today.
RB Leipzig are the visitors to the OlympiaStadion next week, with three points an absolute must in the race for Europe.
