In the second part of the statistical reflection on Hertha’s season, it is a look at the defensive side of things. The capital city club conceded precisely 47 goals through the season, putting them eighth in the league in that regard. The Berliners kept clean sheets in eight home matches, which was only bettered by FC Bayern München and TSG Hoffenheim, who both had nine. Hertha conceded six goals from headers, a second best in the league behind Bayern, with just one. 
The Hertha backline has also proved strong against threats on the counter. The blue and whites conceded just 31 shots from counterattack situations (33 last season), eleven behind league leaders 1. FC Köln’s 20. Hertha were simlarly strong on crosses, conceding just three goals all season from them, once again second only to Bayern with two. Rune Jarstein was only called upon four times, an improvement of three from the previous season.

With ten goals conceded from dead ball situations, Hertha were the third best in the league in this regard, once again trailing only Bayern and Hoffenheim. The rate of opposition chances created from set pieces was 26%, a decrease from the 30% of the previous season. The final improvement came in goals conceded from corners, which happened just three times compared to five the previous season, leaving Hertha as fifth best in the league.
