Mitchell Weiser and Davie Selke discuss their under-21 Euro triumph, their reduced "summer break" and the start of training
Berlin- After two weeks away Mitchell Weiser and Davie Selke are back with Hertha BSC. Along with Niklas Stark they were recently able to celebrate the highlight of their careers with victory over Spain. As Weiser - who scored the winner in the final - got reacquainted with his new teammates, Selke was able to meet his new colleague for the first time.
Davie Selke and Mitchell Weiser on...
...Summer break and the under-21 Euro title:
Selke: Even though I did not play the final the boys were superb and I was so proud of all of them. I wasn’t running too smoothly for the first sprint after the final whistle and I had to be a little bit more reserved during the celebrations. It was a fantastic experience, and one which has inspired me.
Weiser: It’s been really good for me, I have come through the holiday and really enjoyed being Munich and Tokyo, even if my time away could have been a little bit longer! The under-21 Euros were superb, and could not have gone any better and obviously getting the winner was a special moment. The whole time with the squad was a lot of fun.
… the start of training and missing last week’s camp:
Selke: I’ve settled down well here in Berlin, and have got to know most of the lads already. I have experienced a lot of familiar surroundings to this point and I have found everything to be very positive. There’s been no initiation ritual just yet, but something tells me I won’t be immune from one.
Weiser: The others have obviously done a bit more than me, but I haven’t been detached from the rest of the guys. The first session was a little tough, even if the harder things are still to come. Of course you would rather go on holiday than to a training camp but I think the individual sessions with Henrik Kuchno will help me.
… individual goals:
Selke: I’d like to be out on the pitch as much as possible and use that to help the team out as much as I can to a successful season. It’s been tough to not be involved from the start but my foot is still sore, it will be up to the medical team to decide when I can train fully once more.
The main swelling has gone down and I am now pain free.
Weiser on...
… on his friend Davie Selke:
Weiser: I can’t play with Davie in the under-21s anymore so it’s great we can play together here at Hertha. It’s exciting that he’s here in Berlin so I can show him a lot of things. It’s great for the team and means there will always be a good atmosphere in the dressing room. Davie is a funny, ambitious and self-critical guy. If something is not working then he busies himself with it and you can see how much he runs on the pitch.  He is a typical striker, strong in the box and very dangerous. I think he is a fantastic signing for the club.
Weiser: As far as scoring headers are concerned, last year I got one, so I would expect at least two this season.
Selke on...
... the move from Leipzig to Hertha and his ambition with BSC:
Selke: Berlin is another town, another club and a new step for me and I am looking forward to getting to know everyone. Things are different to in Leipzig, but I am looking forward from this point, not back and I am looking forward to this new challenge with Hertha. The new season has not started yet. We first of all need to start and then prepare properly. I have already heard how hard the boys here have work and it’s up to us national players to catch up and for me to learn how everything works.
… his new surroundings in Berlin:
Selke: I’ve found a place already, because I don’t like spending so much time in Hotels - but I am not going to tell you where!
