Vladimir Darida extends contract

Berlin – Hertha BSC have secured the long-term services of another key player as Vladimir Darida extended his contract with the capital city club on Friday (21/07/17). “Vladi is an incredibly important player for us. We’re pleased that he is going to continue to play a key role in our midfield for the next few years,” said Michael Preetz after securing the signature of the 26-year-old. “The talks went very well because all parties had one goal. I’ve had two enjoyable years here so far and have developed both as a footballer and as a person. Now I’m looking forward to the next challenges with Hertha BSC,” said Darida, who is rated highly by his head coach Pál Dárdai not least because of his strong running ability.

Hertha’s number 6 joined the club in the summer of 2015 from SC Freiburg and, in his first season, became a permanent figure in the Hertha midfield. Darida, who can play in any one of the number 6, 8 and 10 positions, played a total of 35 games in league and cap in his first season in Berlin. He also scored seven goals and made five assists which further endeared him to the Hertha faithful. Despite a lengthy injury lay-off during the 2016/17 campaign, Darida still managed 30 appearances for Hertha, scoring twice and notching three assists. The Czech Republic international, who has been capped 45 times by his country, is set to remain at Hertha until at least 2019.
