Stark and Torunarigha Are Back

Stark and Torunarigha Are Back

On Wednesday (09/08/17) the players had their first session back after the training camp in Schladming and began their preparations for the cup game in Rostock.

Berlin are now back at their training grounds at “Schenckendorffplatz”! After an intensive week in the Austrian town of Schladming and then two days off, coach Pál Dárdai’s men were back training in their hometown of Berlin. After the many weeks of tough preparation for the new season, the end is now in sight: This weekend marks the start of Round 1 of the DFB-Pokal. The first obstacle standing in the way of the blue and whites: Hansa Rostock. To begin their campaign in the cup, Hertha will be lining up at 20:45 on Monday evening (14.08.17) against the third division side on the Baltic coast. On Wednesday (09.08.17), Dárdai, Widmayer and the rest of the Hertha team began putting the finishing touches on their preparations for the game.

We also have the welcome bonus of welcoming back two players. Niklas Stark and Jordan Torunarigha have started first-team training again following the injuries that they picked up on the training camp in Austria. “Jordan has already put in a good performance for the U23 team earlier in the week, so he needs just a little more time before he’s back to full fitness. Nik has also done well, so he must now do some good work in training and then we’ll see whether he’ll be ready for the Stuttgart game” said Dárdai of the returnees.

WAITING ON LAZARO AND SELKE

The same cannot be said for Julian Schieber, or Davie Selke and Valentino Lazaro, who have been training on their own. “I have not yet spoken with Valentino - I’ll do that at a later date. Davie is currently still training on his own. With him we can’t really say when he’ll be back. We’ll just have to wait and see” explained Dárdai. Torunarigha and Vladimir Darida were both wished a happy belated birthday on their return to the training pitch. What followed was another start to a tried and tested training week with intensive warm-ups, passing drills, and an entertaining futsal tournament.

After the return on Wednesday there is still some time before the opening match this Monday. On Thursday Dárdai’s men are training at 10:00 and 16:00, and then only at 10:00 on Friday. On Saturday and Sunday training will be happening behind closed doors. Then, after the final training session on Sunday, the Hertha men will travel to Rostock.
