"Nothing to take from that game."

"Nothing to take from that game."

Player and managerial reaction following Hertha's first home loss of the season on Saturday.
Pál Dárdai: They deserved to win. In the first half they did what we wanted to do. They were just a step fresher, more dynamic both physically and mentally. We now have to think about what we did wrong in our preparation. The red card was unnecessary, as was the penalty and both goals could have been defended better. We wanted Mitchell and Davie to work as the counter attackers in the second half, but it did not pan out. There’s nothing to take from this game, we did not turn up today.
Per Skjelbred: There were a few key moments that turned the game and went against us. The red card was decisive and then the penalty was crucial too. It was then tough against such a good opponent. It was just a bad day for us. We wanted to show our stand against Racism, which is why we posed as we did at the beginning of the game.
Davie Selke: There are mixed emotions for me right now. I was able to play for the first time since my injury which was great, but to not be able to win and give the fans a present doesn’t give me much more reason to celebrate. We had a lot in the locker but Schalke did well. We had to attack more after going behind and as a result they had more room, which unfortunately for us they took advantage of.
Mathew Leckie: I was not 100% after all the international football and other games I have played in recent weeks, and I told the boss that. We made the decision that I would start on the bench. It was a very even game until the red card and after making the changes at half time we simply had to attack, and that’s why I was brought on. We tried everything and didn’t play too badly in the second half. We’re obviously disappointed – but we need to pick ourselves up as quickly as possible and get ready for the next task ahead.
