Pál Dárdai (Hertha BSC): It was an important but difficult game for us. It was an open game in the first half and not easy to play against the wind. We had to use the set pieces and make the most of those. It got a little bit close at the end but I am satisfied. We’ve now got 13 points and things look better. We planned to be in the top ten at the end of the season. I can completely understand the frustration after the DFB Pokal defeat in the week, but it said so much about the boys that they put the Cologne defeat behind them. Respect to the them for embracing the pressire. It was not easy with all the pressure from outside that we have had this week, because that makes it look like everyone is unsure and unsatisfied. We are not in a crisis. The team showed that today. I’m glad the fans were there for us after we what we spoke about because this week has not been fun. I take all this on the chin as a coach. The fans belong to us and we belong to them. We are one team playing under the same flag.
Markus Gisdol (Hamburger SV coach): Congratulations to Pal and his team. Up until the second goal it was an open game. We destroyed the game for ourselves. We knew Hertha would be strong from set pieces and we spoke clearly about who was meant to mark who and who was to cover which space. Because we conceded in this way we have to say we did not deserve to win. I don’t want to speak about the good things anymore because we’re not interested in that. We are not going to pick up points if we play with such neglect in the crucial moments.
Niklas Stark: The ball came to me on my head perfectly, i guessed where it was going and got myself in the position. We played better as a team and won more duels. We talked with each other and raised our game. It was not about individuals today, it was a team performance. We shouldn’t have conceded but that can happen sometimes. But we stayed strong. It will do us good to experience that feeling of three points again.
Marvin Plattenhardt: We practice certain set piece routines a lot. Normally we throw a few balls in there and see what happens after training too. It was great to see if pay off today. Both Nik and Karim timed their runs to perfection and made great contact. We know how good they can both be in the air. We are delighted they are both back in the team.
Davie Selke: The relief was so high. We wanted to show how up for this we were. We stayed defensively solid, made some good runs and gave i tour all. I am so pleased we were able to score these two great headed goals. It was a successful day for us and I even had the chance to make it 3-1 after Mitchell Weisers pass but Mathenia came out very well.
Karim Rekik: We were far from pleased with the last few games. It was the same for the fans. The situation is not perfect so obviously we needed to find the solution as a team. It was clear we celebrate goals and the end result as a team. We now have 13 points in the league and we’re going to do everything we can to keep gettingmore. You don’t score a lot as a defender, so you have to enjoy it when you do. But it does not matter for us who gets the goal. This time it was me, but I would be just as happy next time if it was Vedad.
