Hertha in stalemate with Freiburg in Berlin

Berlin- A game that matched the weather. A dreary day in the capital mixed with light showers saw Hertha and Freiburg both draw a blank, and extended Hertha’s wait for a first win in front of their own fans in 2018.
Valentino Lazaro and Vedad Ibisevic both saw good chances slip by in the first half, while neither team could muster an effort of note after the break, as Hertha’s wait for a league goal stretched to just under four and a half games.

Hertha were desperate to bounce back at home in their first game under the watchful eyes of their own fans since last month’s two-nil loss to Mainz.
Intention was there from the off, with the returning Mitchell Weiser looking dangerous having been deployed in a more forward role.
Valentino Lazaro had the game’s first chance, breaking free from Rune Jarstein’s long ball, though the lively Austrian could only fire straight at Schwolow in the visitors’ goal.
Mitchell Weiser was next to test the visting the keeper, rifling an effort on target from twenty yards, and from the resulting corner the Germany under-21 international whistled another long range strike just wide of the post.
It was no surprise that Hertha’s young duo were involved to create the halves best opening, exchanging passes down the right before Lazaro crossed into the centre for Vedad Ibsevic, who could only screw this shot wide from point blank range with the goal at his mercy.
The home captain was the next to have a go moments later, but saw his second effort from inside eight yards kept out by the legs of Schwolow as the sides changed ends at nil-nil.
Chances were at even more of a premium after the restart, with both teams setting up to work the ball from the back, resulting in a complete stalemate in the midfield and neither goalkeeper was forced into a meaningful save.
Despite a new playing surface in the Olympiastadion, Hertha to find the going bumpy at home in 2018 and the final whistle signaled their third draw from four home games this calendar year without a win.
