Jarstein signs new contract

Hertha BSC have extended Rune Jarstein’s contract, meaning he will stay at the club beyond 2019.

Rune Jarstein has extended his contract with Hertha BSC to keep him at the club beyond 2019.

Berlin – Rune Jahrstein on Thursday (12/04/18) signed a new contract with Hertha BSC to keep him at the club beyond 2019, when his previous contract would have ended. “Rune is a fantastic support to the club and has proved himself consistent at the highest level for many years. He still has huge ambition and wants to steadily improve. The young players at the club can learn a lot from his attitude and so for all of these reasons we are really pleased that he will be between our posts for years to come,” commented Michael Preetz on Jahrstein’s contract extension. Rune also expressed his joy over the new deal, “I am really hhappy here at Hertha and in Berlin. The team, the atmosphere, our fans are all great. During my time at the club, I have developed as a keeper and as a person. I am looking forward to having more great years at Hertha,” explained the Norwegian keeper.

After Jahrstein moved to Hertha from Viking FK in Norway in January 2014 and at first was used as a back-up keeper. During this time he played only a couple of times as Thomas Kraft’s deputy. Jahrstein got his chance when Kraft got injured in September 2015 and Jahrstein impressed so much during this time that Dárdai decided to make Rune his permanent number 1. “Rune has developed so impressively, that is no secret. He is amongst the best keepers in the league. He commands his box well and is very good with his feet. He has played in goal for Hertha 91 times in the Bundesliga and in that time has kept 33 clean sheets. During the second half of the current season he has conceded just nine times. Jahrstein has also played 51 times for his national team, being a staple in the Norway side for several years.

Jarstein got his chance however when Kraft picked up an injury in September 2015 and immediately made the most of his chance impressing so much during this time that Dárdai decided to make Rune his permanent number 1. “Rune has developed impressively, that is no secret.
