Jarstein signs new contract

Berlin – Rune Jarstein signed a new contract on Thursday (12/04/18) to keep him at the club beyond his current contract which expires in 2019. “Rune is a fantastic player for the club and has proved himself to be consistent at the highest level for many years. He still has huge ambition and wants to keep improving steadily. The young players at the club can learn a lot from his attitude and so for all of these reasons we are really pleased that he will be between our posts for years to come,” commented Michael Preetz. Rune himself also expressed his joy over the new deal, “I am really happy here at Hertha and in Berlin. The team, the atmosphere, our fans are all great. During my time at the club, I have developed as a keeper and as a person. I am looking forward to having more great years at Hertha,” explained the Norwegian.
After Jarstein moved to Hertha from Norway and Viking FK in January 2014 he was at first deployed as a back-up keeper to Thomas Kraft. During this time he made a couple of appearances but was not a regular. Jarstein got his chance however when Kraft picked up an injury in September 2015 and immediately made the most of his chance impressing so much during this time that Dárdai decided to make Rune his permanent number 1. “Rune has developed impressively, that is no secret. He is amongst the best keepers in the league. He commands his box well and is also very good with his feet," said Dárdai. He has played in goal for Hertha 91 times in the Bundesliga and in that time has kept 33 clean sheets. During the second half of the current season he has conceded just nine times. Jarstein has also played 51 times for his national team, being a staple in the Norway side for several years.
