"Our hard work earned the win"

"Our hard work earned the win"

Marvin Plattenhardt, Per Skjelbred, Valentino Lazaro and Mathew Leckie give their thoughts on Hertha’s brilliant 3-0 win in Frankfurt on Saturday.
Frankfurt – Hertha recorded their fifth away win of the season by beating Frankfurt 3-0 on matchday 31. Here’s what the players and sporting director Michael Preetz had to say at half-time.
Mathew Leckie: That was a hard-earned three points and it feels so good to have finally found the net again. I didn’t catch the ball properly in the first half when I passed it back and that was why we nearly went behind. Luckily we didn’t go behind otherwise we would have been in a very tough spot. We were disciplined, even in the hot weather and scored at the right time. Now we can go into the final three games with real confidence.
Marvin Plattenhardt: At the end of the day I am happy with the three points and the three goals we scored. We had a few problem to start with, conceded a few chances and we were lucky not to go behind. We have three games to focus on our performances and we’ll be looking to keep going.
Per Skjelbred: We played very well. We were lucky not to go behind the first half because they had chances. The boys at the back and Rune did well to keep things tight. We were much better in the second half and moved the ball quicker through the midfield, which is what we do best. We got the goal from Davie at the right time. We used the fact that they were getting tired and made the most of our counter attacks – that’s how we got to 3-0.
Valentino Lazaro: We were fortunate in the first half because they had opportunities before we got into the game more and used the counter attack to good effect. The coach reminded us what we’re good at – getting into a front six as soon as possible and then look to get forward as soon as possible when we have the ball to get behind their back line. The plan came off today perfectly, so congratulations to the team!
Michael Preetz: I have just seen the full replay and heard that the penalty should not have been given. The referee has watched it again himself and confirmed he got the decision right, but I would want to have a look again myself. We have always said that if we set out to win game then we can talk about being able to compete at the top of this league. It probably comes a bit late because there are a lot of points to make up. But there are nine points to play for and against the same three teams in the Hinrunde we collected seven points. We have now won two in a row and can go into next week with our chests out to try and win the game. Then we’ll take another rain check.
