Selke: “I can give everything I have again”
Davie Selke is back in training and talks about his current condition, the injury and Hertha’s start to the season.
Davie Selke wasn’t exactly hiding his upbeat mood, in fact quite the opposite. The striker had a beaming smile after his training session on Tuesday afternoon (28.08.18.) It’s understandable seeing as the 23 year old returns to training with Hertha just six weeks after a lung operation. After his first session back, he opened up to us about his thoughts.
Davie Selke about…
…the first training session back with the team: It has felt really good training back with the boys. I have missed it and I’ve been working to get back the whole time. It has been sensational how quickly I’ve been able to return. The doctors had actually said that I would be out for 3-4 months.
…returning to the squad: If it was up to me, I would be able to return straight away. However, I believe the club has another plan. I’m not exactly sure how many weeks away I am from returning. I’ll initially need approval from the coach and medical staff. First of all, I am just glad that I am at the team and everything until now has gone smoothly. Therefore, I’m feeling good right now, very good.
…his current situation: Meanwhile, I can do whatever I can and I trained well last week with Hendrick Vieth. We tried everything out and slowly enhanced my training. Most importantly, we simulated the impact of stopping, shooting and other factors on my body. I don’t experience any problems now and there haven’t been any setbacks. I don’t have any limitations which you might have after a cruciate ligament injury. I don’t feel any pain anymore which is very beneficial. I can give everything I have again and I feel very positive.
…his injury: The situation that I was in was unusual. A head on collision with Salomon Kalou isn’t exactly an everyday occurance. After that, however, I noticed a stinging and thought that something wasn’t quite right physically; then came the surprising diagnosis after I went into hospital. In the first days after, I wasn’t exactly sure what I had suffered but I knew it was more serious than I first thought. At this point, I was certainly contemplating what happened but I wasn’t negative. It could have been worse. I was looked after really well after this point. Fortunately without any complications, the operation went well. For a few days I was very lonely, I had a tube in my body and was walking around like a pensioner. Eventually, however, things got better and everything returned to normal. I’m therefore really happy to be here again after just six weeks.
…Hertha’s start to the season: A good start was very important especially for the general mood within the team. At the same time, it makes my return to the team much easier. The boys have done a great job up to now and that makes me happy. I’m also pleased that Vedad (Ibisevic) has also scored.
…missing pre-season: I was one of the few people who was looking forward to pre-season. Yet then I was ruled out of it. I hope that it doesn’t become a thing that I regularly miss pre-season in Berlin. I hope to fully take part next year. I’m feeling good at the moment despite not being in perfect condition. I had participated in the first few weeks of pre season and that wasn’t all in vain as I felt good at the time of my injury.
