Hertha waiting for players to return

HERTHA WAITING FOR PLAYERS TO RETURN

On Monday, Hertha BSC began their preparations for their upcoming Bundesliga clash away at Wolfsburg, the second away match in a row for the Old Lady. All of the squad trained yesterday except those injured or those on international duty.

A cloudy afternoon greeted the Hertha players as they returned to start a new week of training on Monday afternoon. The weather then started to turn grey, as grey as a wolf, which is appropriate seeing as the Old Lady will take on Wolfsburg on Saturday 15th September (15:30 CEST) in the clubs’s second Bundesliga away match in succession. At the start of the season, you wouldn’t have assumed that this clash would be the top fixture of matchday three. However, both teams have taken maximum points from their opening two matches and Hertha coach Pál Dárdai knows that at least one of the two teams will drop points for the first time this season. However, the coach has bigger issues to worry about…

The Hungarian has finally got at least some of the Blue-Whites back together and training after the international break. Javairo Dilrosun (Netherlands U20s), Valentino Lazaro (Austria), Arne Maier and Jordan Torunarigha (both Germany U21s) could all still feature for their national teams. “They will return to the squad relatively late. It is important for them to play well and to stay healthy,” explained Dárdai.

‘Platte’ returns on Tuesday

The Hungarian coach could not welcome any of his injured players back from training either. Marvin Plattenhardt, Maximilian Mittelstädt, Karim Rekik, Peter Pekarik, Mathew Leckie and Vladimir Darida are training individually. However, “‘Platte’ will return on Tuesday and he will take part in an intensive morning session. If he copes with that without any problems, we can plan more with him. There is a big question mark still surrounding Maxi,” said Dárdai. All of the other absent players will miss the Wolfsburg clash. On the other hand, Davie Selke could make his first appearance of the season. “He has been doing some good things. He trained all of last week and has another full week of training ahead of him. There is a good chance I will be able to play him on Saturday,” the Hungarian coach explained. There are two public training sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday this week at 10:00 CEST and 16:00 CEST respectively where different players will train as those on international duty start to return to the club.
