Commanding win for Maier and Torunarigha with the Germany U21s

The Germany U21s beat Ireland U21s in the UEFA European Championship qualifier 6-0, whilst Valentino Lazaro and Austria lost 1-0 to Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Germany U21s took a big step forward towards qualifying for the Euros in 2019. Stefan Kuntz’s team beat Ireland on Tuesday. In reaction to the game the coach said, “I am very happy with the performance of the team over the whole 90 minutes. The lads have developed a great team spirit over the last week and you could see it on the pitch in Dublin. Our defensive organisation was top quality and we were able to transition well from defence into attack."

Jordan Torunarigha played the first 45 minutes but came off due to being on a yellow card. Arne Maier played his second ever game for the U21s, coming on in the 67th minute. Aaron Seydel scored one, Suat Serdar scored two and Cedric Teuchert scored three as the Germany U21s extended their lead at the top of the table to five points. There are still two more qualification games to come in October, however, it's lookling likely that the German side will feature in the tournament in Italy in the coming year. The two Hertha players are expected to return to Berlin on Wednesday afternoon and return to training on Thursday.

Defeat for Lazaro

Valentino Lazaro’s evening was not as successful. The 22-year-old played in a Nations League game against Bosnia and Herzegovina and lost 1-0. The former Bundesliga player Edin Dzeko scored the winning goal in the 78th minute of the game. Lazaro, who played the whole game, had two chances to take the lead, but was unable to convert. Austria currently sit bottom of Group 3, League B in the Nations League with zero points. They are joined by Northern Ireland who also have zero points. Bosnia Herzagovina top the group with six points.
