Crunch meeting in the DFB-Pokal: Hertha BSC host FC Bayern
Hertha BSC will host FC Bayern München in the DFB-Pokal round of 16 on the 5th/6th February 2019.
Serdal Celebi has given Hertha BSC an absolute cracker of a cup tie in the third round of this season’s DFB-Pokal. The club from the capital have been drawn to face record cup champions FC Bayern München at home on the 5th/6th February 2019. Two matches will kick off at 18:30 CET and 20:45 CET respectively. “Someone has to play FC Bayern in each round,” commented Hertha coach Pál Dárdai with a grin shortly after the draw was conducted. “We are looking forward to hosting them in a packed Olympiastadion.”
“Of course Bayern are brilliant opponents for the match but we would’ve wanted to have faced them in the Olympiastadion in May,” said Hertha sporting director Michael Preetz shortly after the draw, which took place in the German football museum in Dortmund. Elsewhere, in the other third round matches, Borussia Dortmund will host fellow Bundesliga club Werder Bremen. Hertha and ten other Bundesliga clubs remain in contention to win the DFB-Pokal, alongside five second tier teams.
