Hertha Berlin suffered their third loss of the season as they lost 4-1 to Fortuna Düsseldorf on Saturday (10/11/18). After the heavy defeat, five players spoke to the media and gave their views on the game.
Maximilian Mittelstädt: We got into the game well and had some good chances early on. In my opinion, the second yellow was not a bookable offence. I was running with the player and just had my arm slightly across his body. The referee can say it is a foul but he gave me another yellow card. Nevertheless, we should not be conceding so many goals. We must learn from this and improve in the future.
Niklas Stark: I will have to wait until the morning to see how it is. It is my right foot again. It is similar to my last injury. I went in for a challenge and the middle of my foot was caught. What else is there to say about the game? We started well, the sending off was a big blow for us. I didn’t see what happened so I cannot say if it was deserved or not. We were one man down and so we were unable to find space and time on the ball.
Karim Rekik: Maxi is a young player and he needs to learn when to make professional fouls, especially when already on a yellow card. I don’t think he should have got a yellow card for the second foul. It was in their half. We need to win in our next game.
Vladimir Darida: The first half was solid other than the final third, where we were lacking the necessary quality. After the sending off, we were out of the game. There are still many more games to go. We will use the international break to sit down together and make sure we get three points in our next game.
Davie Selke: We had chances to take the lead in the first half but we were unable to take them. I thought the second yellow card was a bit harsh as similar offences to our players were not equally punished. However, this is not a criticism of the referee. With one man down it is always difficult. We had to go for it in the second half and that left us vulnerable at the back and Fortuna used the space well.
