“We need to be more clinical in front of goal”

“We need to be more clinical in front of goal”

Fabian Lustenberger, Valentino Lazaro, Arne Maier, Marvin Plattenhardt und Ondrej Duda discussed the 2-2 home draw against FC Augsburg.

Berlin – Just under 30,000 fans were in attendance for the final home game of the season, in which neither side could find a winning goal. “It’s a shame that we couldn’t end the year with a home win,” said a slightly disappointed Valentino Lazaro after the final whistle. herthabsc.de has summarised all the post-match reactions.

Valentino Lazaro: Until their second goal, we had played well in the first half. We combined well as a team and got forwards well. Everyone knows how dangerous Hinteregger is in the air – he is really hard to defend against. We just defended really poorly for their second goal. We need to be more clinical in front of goal. After the 40th minute, we noticed that the pitch was getting worse, so we tried to play more long balls and win the subsequent second balls. We had our chances and didn’t give them many at the other end. It’s a shame that we couldn’t end the year with a home win.

Fabian Lustenberger: We reacted well to going behind and then took the lead. Unfortunately we then conceded a really soft equaliser. In the second half, we fought hard for a goal and they didn’t look like scoring – we just lacked that lucky break to win it. It’s a shame, but we will take a point and now prepare for Saturday and hope that we can get something from the game.

Arne Maier: Augsburg are a good team, who are difficult to play against. We knew that they would be aggressive – which they were. The result was probably fair to be honest.

Marvin Plattenhardt: We are conceding too many soft goals at the moment: One from a set-piece and then another goal that goes through someone’s legs. It’s almost like we are cursed. We wanted more than a point, but can’t do anything about that now. Now we will have to get some points in Leverkusen.

Ondrej Duda: We were unlucky not to score a third goal, which I felt we deserved. It wasn’t easy to play on that pitch tonight. I hope that we can now take all three points in Leverkusen. I was delighted to start again and help out my team. Everyone would have been happy if we’d won the game tonight. A point isn’t bad, but it was our last home game of the year and we wanted to win the game for our fans.
