“A fully-deserved victory!”

We spoke to Davie Selke, Marko Grujić and Niklas Stark after the 3-1 win in Nürnberg.

Davie Selke: It was an important game for us. The coaches and the boss made it clear to us how important it is to start well in the Rückrunde. We showed this reaction on the pitch and gave it our all. Nürnberg equalised with a strange goal, but we fought back, and it’s a fully-deserved victory for us in the end. It’s the first time that I’ve had a game on my birthday. Of course I’m glad that I could help the team with two assists and that we won. The only downer is that I hit the post. I’m looking forward to the rest of the evening, my family are waiting for me at home in Berlin.

Ondrej Duda: In the past we’ve not done as well in the second half of the season, so that’s an unbelievably important first win. You always get more self-confidence after a victory and there’s a good atmosphere within the team. We’re all hoping that it carries on and we can build on it. The next games won’t be any easier.

Marko Grujić: It’s obviously super that we won the game – we couldn’t have started the Rückrunde any better! I’m glad that we scored three goals and we were successful despite the difficult conditions. We used the week of training effectively after our somewhat disappointing Telekom Cup and showed again that we can play good football. I’m also glad to be back on the pitch with the team. My ankle feels good.

Niklas Stark: We have a good team spirit, everyone goes into tackles, every wants to win, we have to keep it like this. We started well, but we slowly let Nürnberg back into the game after the early goal. We spoke about this at half time and then we were considerably better. The fact that we scored so soon after half time settled us down for the rest of the game. I’m glad that we got the three points, but I hope that my old team are on the up again soon.
