Mittelstädt and Duda score – Lazaro narrowly loses

Seven Herthaner were in international action on Thursday evening (21/03).

Berlin – Maximilian Mittelstädt scored his first goal for Germany U21s on Thursday evening (21/03) and made his coach proud at the same time. “I told him in training that he wasn’t dangerous enough going forward. The goal was the perfect answer,” said a pleased Stefan Kuntz. Despite going into the break 2-0 up, the U21s, who also had Jordan Torunarigha and Arne Maier in their starting XI, couldn’t hold and drew 2-2 with France. Lukas Klünter also came on as a substitute around an hour into the game. The U21s next face Englad in Bournemouth on Tuesday (26/03, 20:45 CET).

‘Number 10’ leads Slovakia to a win

Peter Pekarik and Ondrej Duda were able to celebrate three points with Slovakia, having beaten Hungary 2-0 in their first European qualifier. Duda played a decisive role in his side’s first win of the campaign. Hertha’s number 10 opened the scoring in the 42nd minute and set up Albert Rusnak in the 84th minute. Duda was then taken off to a round of applause from his home crowd in Trnava. Peter Pekarik played the whole 90 minutes. Slovakia face Wales on Sunday (24/03, 15:00 CET).

Darida and Klinsmann in action on Friday

Austria, on the other hand, failed to pick up any points in their opening game against Poland. Valentino Lazaro played 81 minutes in their 1-0 defeat. Their next chance at winning points comes on Sunday in Haifa against Israel (24/03, 18:00).

Two Herthaner are also in action on Friday evening (22/03). Vladimir Darida will take on England with Czech Republic, while Jonathan Klinsmann and the USA U23s will face Egypt U21s in Spain.
