Julian Albrecht to turn professional

The 17-year-old is the first player from the 2001 age group to sign a professional contract.
Berlin – Hertha BSC’s youth academy has once again showed its strength and provided another player for the first team: Julian Albrecht has signed a professional contract for next season and is the first from his 2001 age group to do so. Dennis Jastrzembski is currently the youngest player in Pál Dárdai’s squad.
The Rostock-born man has been in Hertha’s academy since the summer of 2016 and as a 17-year-old was part of the U19 side that won the German championship last season under head coach Michael Hartmann. “I’m really pleased to make the next step in my career at Hertha BSC. It was an easy decision to sign this contract as young players get a chance here. I will give everything I can to take this chance and to impress in training,” said the young midfielder.
Hertha’s sporting director Michael Preetz explained: “Julian Albrecht is another player in our academy with a lot of potential, who we believe can make the step up into professional football. We’re delighted that another home-grown product from our academy will be part of Pál Dárdai’s first-team squad.”
The midfielder has made 17 appearances in the U19 Bundesliga, scoring four goals and assisting two. He appeared in all six games in the UEFA Youth League this season, contributing with one goal and one assist, before Hertha were eliminated by FC Barcelona in the last 16.
