Thomas Kraft extends contract

It’s official – Thomas Kraft will become Hertha BSC’s longest-serving current player. The goalkeeper has signed a contract extension with the ‘Old Lady’ to remain with the Berlin club for a further year. “Thomas is an important member of our squad, both on and off the field. He doesn’t only show his value to the club when he steps in for Rune Jarstein – he is also a big personality in the dressing room. Therefore we are pleased that he will be a Herthaner for at least another year,” said Michael Preetz on the 30-year-old’s contract extension. “I am very happy to continue on this path with Hertha BSC and be able to play my part in a successful future. My family and I feel at home in Berlin and at Hertha – that is shown in my loyalty to the club,” said the goalkeeper on the faith being shown in him.
The goalkeeper came to Berlin from Bayern München in 2011. He made his Bundesliga debut for the champions aged 22, winning the title and playing in the Champions League. The custodian signed for the club after Hertha’s tough relegation in 2012, his ambition being one of the factors that contributed to Hertha’s immediate return to the top-flight the following season. Kraft lost his number one spot between the sticks in September 2015 after injuring his shoulder, accepting his role as a role-model for others in the club and supporting Rune Jarstein from this time onwards, as well as helping the younger generation of Hertha goalkeepers. When he was needed, he was always there. All in all, Kraft, who the coaching staff always praise for his hard work and reliability, has made 152 competitive appearances for Hertha so far.
