Emphatic win for Germany U21s

Germany U21s ran out comfortable winners over Serbia in their second group at the U21 Euros, as Arne Maier scored a stunning goal to seal the 6-1 win.

Berlin – Two games, two wins – and what a win it was! On Thursday evening (20/6/19), Germany U21s comfortably defeated Serbia 6-1. While Maximilian Mittelstädt and new signing Eduard Löwen remained on the bench, Arne Maier came on in the 67th minute and curled home the side’s sixth goal in injury time. Marco Richter (16’) and Luca Waldschmidt (30’, 37’) had earlier ensured Germany went into the break with a clear lead. Mahmoud Dahoud added a fourth (69’) after half time, before Waldschmidt (80’) completed his hat-trick. Andrija Zivkovic pulled one back with a penalty for Serbia (85’), however Maier scored the last goal with his special strike (92’).
Stefan Kuntz’s side sit top of Group B with six points from their two games, meaning they have a great chance of reaching the semi-finals and also qualifying for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. A draw against Austria in the final group game on Sunday (23/6/19, 21:00 CEST) would be enough to secure that goal. “It was an excellent performance and I enjoyed watching it. The lads put in a great display. I’ll still only be satisfied when we reach the semi-finals,” commented Kuntz.
