Marius Gersbeck joins Karlsruher SC

The 24 year old leaves Hertha BSC after 15 years and joins recently-promoted second-division side Karlsruher SC.

After 15 years at the club, Marius Gersbeck has left Hertha BSC. At just nine years old, the goalkeeper left FC Bradneburg 03 to join the ‘Old Lady’ and progressed through every youth level at the club. In 2014, Gersbeck joined the first-team squad and spent time away at Chemnitzer FC and VfL Osnabrück before returning to the capital. “We wish Marius all the best at Karlsruhe and hope that he can get between the sticks as quickly as possible and pick up match practice,” said sporting director Michael Preetz on the transfer.
Gersbeck himself meanwhile spoke emotional words upon his farewell. "I'm really looking forward to the new challenge at KSC. At this point, I'd also like to thank the club and the Hertha fans for 15 brilliant years. What I've been able to experience at Hertha BSC has made me who I am today and will shape me forever. Even though I'm leaving Hertha, I will always remain a part of this club," said the custodian. Hertha fans won't have to wait long to see the 1.87m tall giant again, who won the German title in 2012 with the Hertha U17s in the B-Junioren Bundesliga. On 13th July, Hertha will visit and play Karlsruhe in a tournament at the Wildparkstadion as a part of the club's 125th birthday celebrations. Based loosely on the motto 'you'll always meet again', Hertha fans have been closely connected in a friendship with Karlsruhe's faithful for decades.
