Hertha BSC and Tennor finalise strategic partnership

Hertha BSC and Tennor finalise strategic partnership.

The capital club and global Investors Tennor Holding B.V. have created a strategic partnership. The agreement includes an equity investment.

Hertha BSC GmbH & Co. KGaA and global investors Tennor Holding B.V. have formed a strategic partnership. The agreement includes an investment of 125 million Euros for the time being whilst Tennor acquiring a minority stake of 37.5%. It was also agreed that an increased share up to 49.9% in the future could materialise.

Seven months after the repurchasing of shares and options (in total 36.3% for 71.2 million Euros) from investors KKR, the new partnership will enable extensive repayments over the next few years in the core operational areas of sports, digitalisation and internationalisation.

A ground-breaking decision

The supervisory board and the president of the club, as well as the supervisory board and advisory board of KGaA unanimously approved the agreement. “I am proud and happy that our continuous work at Hertha BSC has paid off so promptly after the repurchasing of KKR shares. The result is a also a great credit to the very trusting and professional negotiations with Tennor. My greatest thanks go to all Herthaner involved and our external advisors,” said Ingo Schiller, financial manager of Hertha BSC. Michael Preetz, the sporting director also commented on the matter at hand: “This cooperation is leading the way for our club and we are aware that continuous work will steadily increase our chances in every competition. This new partnership is yet another indicator of this awareness.”

President Werner Gegenbauer is also positive about the deal: “Today is a good day for Hertha BSC. This partnership is a result of the development that we are making. The president of Hertha BSC is always anxious to ensure the club has a solid financial basis to work off in the future. This aspiration and also the preservation of our club culture are reflected in this new partnership.”

A milestone for the club

Dr Torsten-Jörn Klein, chairman of the club’s supervisory board, said, “this is a new milestone for Hertha BSC. The focus is now on developing the club further with new resources, and to lead the club towards an even more successful future. The advisory board, as the body of the shareholder of Hertha BSC e.V., has carefully monitored and examined this increase in capital and unanimously approved it.” Lars Windhorst, chairman of Tennor Holding B.V., explained, “the stable figures and the impressive management work at Hertha BSC convinced us to enter this partnership. We see it as a long-term and promising agreement. For me personally, it is a great pleasure to be able to contribute to the economic future of this great club in Berlin.”
