Hertha BSC have renewed the midfielder’s loan deal for another year after agreeing terms with Liverpool ahead of the new season.

Berlin – Great news for all Herthaner: Midfielder Marko Grujić will remain at the club for the 2019/20 season. “Marko showed his quality here immediately and proved how much he can help the team. We hope that he can stay fit during his second season and that he will continue to put in strong performances,” commented sporting director Michael Preetz ahead of the loan extension. “I wanted to stay to at Hertha, so I’m happy that it’s all worked out well. I’m looking forward to the new season and will work hard in pre-season, so that we can achieve more success next season,” said a happy Grujić. “We’re delighted that Marko is staying here for another year. He was excellent in the centre of midfielder last season,” added coach Ante Čović. “As he is still young, I believe that he can still develop a lot and Hertha BSC is the right club to do that at!”

The 23-year-old, who came through the Red Star Belgrade academy, joined Hertha on loan from Liverpool in August 2018. The tall Serb quickly became a first-team regular, despite several ankle injuries. He played 22 times in the Bundesliga, scoring five goals and assisting one. He also appeared once in the DFB-Pokal. Grujić has won 8 caps for the national team, and was part of the 2018 World Cup squad in Russia.
