Jarstein saves penalty

Rune Jarstein saves a point for Norway in Romania. Mathew Leckie’s Australia win comfortably.

Berlin – sometimes only a few minutes separate joy and despair, as Rune Jarstein found out on Tuesday evening. Hertha’s goalkeeper managed to save a penalty in Norway’s European qualifier against Romania (52’), before falling behind only 10 minutes later as Alexandru Mitrita gave the hosts the lead (62’). However, the Norwegians had the last laugh as Alexander Sörloth snatched the equaliser in the second minute of added time to make it 1-1. The Scandinavians now lie in fourth place in Group F with eleven points, leaving Jarstein and his teammates still with the possibility of qualifying for the tournament next summer. Spain lead the way in the group (20 points), followed by Sweden (15 points) and Romania (14).
Leckie on the bench for win
The Herthaner spent the full 90 minutes on the substitute’s bench as Australia earned an emphatic 7-1 win over Taiwan in their World Cup qualifier on Tuesday afternoon. The ‘Socceroos’ have won every competitive game in their group so far. Hertha’s U19 player Lazar Samardzic played for the Germany U19s in their 1-0 defeat against Scotland. However, Guido Streichsbier’s side had already qualified for the competition before the game.
