"Even a point can be good for confidence"

"Even a point can be good for confidence"

After the emotional night in Frankfurt, Davie Selke, Niklas Stark, Marko Grujic and Karim Rekik talked about the 2-2 draw.

After almost 96 exhausting, battle-heavy minutes Hertha BSC came away with a 2-2 draw on Friday night with Eintracht Frankfurt. After the final whistle, the feelings were mixed in blue and white - especially because of the 2-0 lead that was forfeited. "With a bit more luck we could have got the three points, but that’s how it goes," said Davie Selke. We summarised the post match reaction.

Davie Selke: It's never easy to play in Frankfurt. That's why it was important to get off to a good start and we did - we threw everything. In the second half, we knew they would try and fight back. We wanted to do something about it, but it was clear that we cannot defend everything. With a bit more luck, we could have got the three points, but that’s just the way it goes. The coach motivated us very well before the match and set us up well. We feel very fit and confident going in to the next few weeks now that we have got this point.

Marko Grujic: Last week we showed some character against Dortmund, but didn’t manage to get a point. Here we played well - and that is important. We always have to be hungry when defending, we have to keep the ball away from our own goal, we failed at that twice today and we have to analyze that. A win would have been fantastic, of course, but we want to pick up again next week against Freiburg. Even a point can be good for confidence. You can already see what the new coach is trying to implement here and I’m sure it will be even clearer come January.

Niklas Stark: You saw against Dortmund that we value intensity. We wanted to show that killer touch this time. Everyone should think: Oh God, here comes Hertha. Not only do we want to instil fear in the opposition but we also want to pick up points. If that works out, then playing style can also come to it. The coach was rather defensive and actually we did it quite well – apart from the corners everything was fine. The stats where defending corner are concerned might not look good for us this season but we’re doing everything we can. We can be proud of ourselves, even if it is a bit disappointing in the end just to get the draw.

Karim Rekik: We played well in the first half and even scored a second goal after the break. Unfortunately they caught us off guard with the equaliser – it came too quickly. Had it not come so early, we would have had a good chance of three points. Annoying that we have conceded again to from a corner, even though we must admit that Frankfurt are really good from set pieces. Despite the late equaliser, we can say that the game was a step in the right direction, but we are just as disappointed that we weren’t lucky enough to take more. I have a good feeling that we will soon be rewarded for our hard work once again.
