Before the last away game of the year against Bayer Leverkusen (18/12/19, 18:30 CET), it was assistant coach Alexander Nouri who spoke at the press conference about the game against the ‘Werkself’, personnel changes, and having faith in one’s own abilities.

Usually it would be head coach Jürgen Klinsmann and sporting director Michael Preetz who take press conferences, but on Tuesday the responsibility fell to Alexander Nouri. The appearance from Klinsmann’s assistant coach just before Christmas shows a real faith invested in him by the Hertha head coach to interpret the feeling within the camp.

Regardless of who ultimately engages with the press, the goals of the club are the same heading into the last away game of the year at Bayer 04 Leverkusen. "We are going to Leverkusen to get points," Nouri made clear before the game on Wednesday (December 18, 2019, 18:30 CET) emphasising the courage that the team have taken from the past few weeks. "As a professional, you have to have faith in yourself and develop a bit of self-assurance in order to implement things in the game. Points help most in this regard, when you win you realise you’re moving forward."

In terms of personnel, the 40-year-old didn’t reveal too much, but he spoke a lot about what the team have to look out for in the 'Werkself'. "If we defend compactly and close off any gaps, that will give us a certain security in the game. If we defend well, we’ll develop a bit more trust in each other - that will also be important against Leverkusen. Bayer are an incredibly variable opponent who and they  don’t need much space to be effective."
