Max Steinborn to take over goalkeeping coach duties from Andreas Köpke

As of 1st January 2020, Max Steinborn, a teacher and the current goalkeeper coach of our U23s, will replace Andreas Köpke as the first-team goalkeeping coach to allow Köpke to return to his duties with the Germany national team.
Berlin – Andreas Köpke won the 1990 World Cup and 1996 European Championship alongside Jürgen Klinsmann, and was also the goalkeeping coach for Germany at the 2014 World Cup. Köpke became the goalkeeping coach at Hertha at the end of November 2019 at Klinsmann’s request. As previously agreed upon, Köpke will now return to his coaching duties with Germany, where he has been part of the senior coaching staff since 2004.
He will be replaced by Max Steinborn, who has been training the Hertha U23 goalkeepers since 2015/16. Steinborn was born on 28th August 1988 in Jena and will take over the role until the end of the season. He began working for the Hertha academy in various roles in 2011. Steinborn studied German and Sport at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena and is employed as a teacher at Hertha’s partner school, the ‘Sportschule im Olympiapark – Poelchau-Oberschule.’
Hertha BSC would like to thank Andreas Köpke for his work at the club, and would like to wish Max Steinborn all the best in his new role at Hertha BSC!
