Klinsmann’s intense training programme
Klinsmann’s intense training programme

On Sunday (29/12/2019), Hertha will begin preparations for the second half of the season. After a few training sessions, the squad will fly to Florida on January 2nd.
The first half of the 2019/20 season did certainly not go to plan for Hertha BSC, despite ending the year with wins against Freiburg and Leverkusen and draws against Frankfurt and Gladbach. However, in football, all that matters is the here and now. With a positive second half of the season, the rather disappointing Hinrunde can soon be forgotten about, and that is Jürgen Klinsmann’s plan. After about a week off, the head coach will gather his troops at the Olympiastadion on Sunday the 29th, four days earlier than initially planned. "Given our current situation, we have to do a bit more," said the 55-year-old. "Fitness is absolutely fundamental and we are sure it will keep improving if we continue to work at it together. The lads are keeping it up really well."

To kick off the three week preparation period, Klinsmann and his coaching team have arranged a dressing room session for the afternoon. On Monday (30/12) and Tuesday (31/12), the players will train at 10:00 and 14:30 CET at Schenckendorffplatz. On New Year’s Day, they will train behind closed doors. "We want to spend as much time with the team as possible, especially to optimise the physical side of our game ahead of the second leg of the season," explained assistant coach Alexander Nouri.
On January 2nd, the squad will set sail for the Florida, USA, where the perfect training facilities to put Klinsmann and his assistants’ intense programme into practice await. "Orlando is a beautiful place, where the lads can enjoy the sun a little as well," said Klinsmann with a smirk, knowing full well that his extensive training plan will be pushing the players to their limits. On January 8th, they will have the chance to test their progress with a friendly against Eintracht Frankfurt, to be played at 19:00 local time in the Al Lang Stadium in St. Petersburg. On Sunday, January 19th, Bayern München come to town for a 15:30 CET kick-off. Hertha’s first competitive fixture in 2020.
