Focused on Wolfsburg!
Focused on Wolfsburg!

On Wednesday (22/01/20), Hertha began their preparations for a trip to Wolfsburg. The public were asked to leave midway through the session, as the capital club, hoping for four players to return to the squad, step up their training regimen.
Public training sessions are just as much a part of the weekly schedule as sessions that take place away from the eyes of spectators. It’s not often that these two aspects of a weekly training regime ever blur into one, but that is exactly what happened in this case. The public were allowed to watch the players warming up, but Klinsmann wanted preparations for the game to be done without an audience. “We wanted to be fully focused on our work with the boys and the content of the session. We have to get everyone’s attention focused on this content. Nothing against the fans, but it was necessary for us to be able to fully concentrate on the things that we need to improve.”

Mathew Leckie (flu), Niklas Stark and Arne Maier also trained, but, along with Karim Rekik, they did a reduced session to avoid overloading them as they look to return to full training. “They were all able to do parts of the session and will play an increasingly more prevalent role in training,” said Alexander Nouri. “Nikas might be back on Thursday, Arne will be there at some point in the next few days. With Karim, we’ll have to wait and see. We’ll decide what each player does a bit later.”
In the afternoon, the players will head inside for their second session of the day; Thursday and Friday’s sessions will also not be open to the public. On Saturday (25/01/20, 15:30 CET), there are three more points up for grabs in an away tie against VfL Wolsburg. “We need to push ourselves to the limit, both as a team and as individuals,” Nouri said. “We have to fight hard for every point, by being compact and working as a unit. On Saturday, we want to the give a good reaction to the Rückrunde opener.”
