Goal frenzy against Freiburg

Hertha’s side, represented by the duo of Nerlich and Mittelstädt, fell to a 12-7 loss against SC Freiburg in the second Matchday of the Bundesliga Home Challenge.

Berlin – The Blue-White duo of Elias Nerlich and Maximilian Mittelstädt suffered defeat at the hands of SC Freiburg in week two of the Bundesliga Home Challenge. After two hard-fought matches, SCF came away with an overall 12-7 win on aggregate. Just as he did in the opening week against Paderborn, Hertha’s eSports player Nerlich earned a commanding win over SCF player Mark Flekken (6-1). Nerlich broke the deadlock 25 minutes into the game with a goal courtesy of Matheus Cunha. The professional FIFA player then doubled his lead shortly into the second half, with Günter deflecting Kiprit’s chip into his own net (58’). Vedad Ibisevic then added a third for the capital club 20 minutes from time (69’). Nerlich then began to turn on the style, scoring two more goals in quick concession, with braces for Kiprit (74’) and Ibisevic (76’). Vladimir Darida finished the scoring for Hertha late into the affair (84’), before Nils Petersen netted what was nothing more than a consolation goal for Flekken and SCF (88’).

Mittelstädt then took control, lining up against fellow Bundesliga professional Nico Schlotterbeck but was unfortunately beaten convincingly to overturn the tie for Freiburg. The Hertha fullback showed early glimpses of quality, replying to Petersen’s opener (6’) almost instantly (9’). However, Schlotterbeck then managed to assert his dominance quickly into the fixture and regained the lead just 14 minutes into the game through Borrello (14’). A flurry of goals from Höler (25’, 30’, 40’, 45’) as well as a second for Petersen put the Freiburg defender out of sight by half time, leading by seven goals to one. The second half was no different from the first, as Schlotterbeck added five more goals to his tally before finishing the game with an overall score of 11-1. “I was happy with my performance and obviously hoped that the win would’ve been enough for us. But what happened to Maxi can happen to any player. It went exactly as Nico Schlotterbeck wanted it to and you can see that he’s an elite player in the Weekend League. Nevertheless it was a really cool experience!” Elias Nerlich summarised the virtual match. The Bundesliga Home Challenge continues over the next two weekends, with the exact timings still yet to be confirmed.
